Recalling the match and the build-up to that phase, he said, “Up until that day, I was losing that match, and then things changed. Cena had a lot to do with it. Cena had a lot to do with what happened that day.

The Celtic Warrior further said, “Also, [Cena felt] this is someone I can do business with, someone who’s a believable foe to John Cena, which is what John needed.” Sheamus was built up as a legitimate heel during his feud against Cena who was a perennial baby face for WWE for nearly two decades.

WWE has always relied upon the storyline that showcases the battle between good and evil as depicted by their heel and baby face performers. Hence, to depict a storyline worthy enough to entertain its audience, they build up characters.

This concept was further solidified by Sheamus during his interview. He said, “What every good babyface or hero needs is a good villain, and he saw that in me. People did not like me. People hated me.” Thanks to Cena spotting Sheamus and insisting on setting up a match with the then-new star, Sheamus was able to receive the push that he needed to become a champion. Since then, Sheamus has won the World Championship title four times, as well as several other championships, solidifying his hold on the promotion and the industry.

Currently, Sheamus is out of the main roster due to an injury. While he started as a heel facing off against Cena, during his latest appearance, he was working as a baby face.
