In October 2018, during an episode of Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns, who at the time was the Universal Champion, took the microphone and revealed to the world that he had been privately battling leukemia for 11 years and that the disease had returned. At that very moment, he announced that he would take some time to focus on his health and fight leukemia, so he had to give up the WWE Universal Championship.

After several months of treatment and recovery, Roman Reigns made a triumphant return to the company in February 2019, during the Fastlane event and, since then, the Samoan has continued to be one of the principal figures in WWE. Until he consolidated himself as the face of the company. However, it seems like he is facing the familiar adversary again as mentioned by Pat McAfee on commentary tonight and as addressed by the Tribal Chief tonight post WrestleMania Night 1.

Tonight on Night 1 of WrestleMania, Roman Reigns and his cousin the Rock defeated team Cody Rhodes in what was a spectacular match. However, what caught a lot of attention during the match was Pat McAfee mentioning that Reigns is still suffering from leukemia. A reporter in the press conference post-Mania asked the WWE Universal champion if he could provide an update, to which the Tribal Chief revealed, “I’m still on oral chemotherapy. It’s a medication that I’m gonna have to remain on my entire life most likely uhm. So yeah, that’s a part of my personal battle. It doesn’t affect…thank god, I’m still able to perform.”

He further added, “I think anybody in my position would say health is wealth. And as long as I can continue to perform then you already know that’s at bay. So we’re good, we’re still in remission but it is something that it’s still a part of my life.” Even in his A&E documentary, Roman Reigns revealed that while leukemia is no longer a problem for him today, he is still being treated with powerful drugs. Reigns mentioned that this was possible thanks to the fact that the disease was detected at an early stage, which has allowed him to follow proper medical treatment.

All in all, it is great news that the WWE star can continue to compete without further complications and that his treatment is effective. Now, The Tribal Chief faces one of the biggest challenges of his career, as at WrestleMania 40 he will have to face Cody Rhodes to retain his title and prestige after a triumph over the American Nightmare and his teammate Seth Rollins on night 1.
