Tama Tonga surprised the WWE Universe by debuting on WWE SmackDown tonight. The NJPW star attacked Jimmy Uso and swore allegiance to The Bloodline. With Roman Reigns out of the picture and Solo Sikoa in charge, this is truly a new era in the WWE.

On Fightful Select’s Patreon, they detailed how, according to the reports, Tonga’s debut has been a long time coming. The WWE has been eyeing the Samoan for the last few months. The reports read, “One idea that had been floated internally as a possibility was Fatu teaming with Tama Tonga.” This is because both men’s fathers were tag partners in the 80s as The Islanders. The report also stated that the WWE wanted Tonga in 2006 but couldn’t reach an agreement.

The report also stated that “WWE had interest in both Hikuleo and Tama Tonga, but things were held up when an unofficial hiring freeze took place when Vince McMahon forced his way back into the company.” This clears it up that the WWE has had plans for Tonga for a long time. Under Triple H’s supervision, The Bloodline has gained a massive following and a well-structured storyline. This stable has one of WWE’s longest-running storylines, and with the inclusion of Tonga and possibly Fatu, it is clear that it will continue.

In conclusion, the report stated that Tonga had no contact with AEW during his free agent period. He was always close to the WWE and was destined to be a part of the main roster. SmackDown solidified that he is now with The Bloodline and will help in that storyline. But where could the story go from here? With Tonga now part of The Bloodline and Jimmy being out, there is the possibility he could reunite with Jey. The two could be the ones trying to stop The Bloodline till Reings returns. While all this is speculation, seeing where the WWE takes this new development will be interesting.
