The year 2022 has been a wild ride in WWE so far. This year saw a massive change of regime at the top, something that nobody ever saw coming. Apart from this, a number of wrestlers returned to the company following their releases.

However, this year also saw the company being hit by one of the worst injury bugs in recent times. Becky Lynch, Big E, Randy Orton, Tommaso Ciampa, and many others have spent time on the sidelines this year.

Unfortunately, one of WWE’s biggest stars and storylines was also shelved after the ‘American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes suffered a torn pectoral muscle injury in June. The former Intercontinental Champion has been out of action for over six months.

But now the fans can look forward to the return of the star who made headlines when he jumped ship from AEW to WWE earlier this year. The recent update on Rhodes’ WWE return is positive and should excite his fans.

Cody Rhodes nearing WWE return

Cody Rhodes returned to WWE earlier this year without too much fanfare. The former AEW star came back at WrestleMania and defeated Seth Rollins in his return match. The two stars would go on to have another two matches with Rhodes prevailing both times.

Just before their match at Hell in a Cell inside the brutal structure, Rhodes suffered a torn pectoral muscle. But in one of the most courageous and gutsy performances of all time, Rhodes battled Rollins with essentially a single arm and won the contest.

The son of legendary Dusty Rhodes had to undergo immediate surgery to repair the pectoral muscle that has kept him out of action. But according to the latest reports, the wrestler has recovered well and has begun training in the gym.

WWE had announced in June that the 37-year-old star would be out for around nine months, but it looks like he will be making his return well before that timeline.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported, Cody, is “back to normal when it comes to his ability to train”. The report also says that Rhodes is lifting heavy weights and wants to bulk up before his return.

The report further notes that the wrestler is training with top-level trainers to add to his size and strength. Moreover, Rhodes appeared at the Sports Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and looked in great shape.

With this latest update, fans can expect the former AEW TNT Champion to be back in the WWE soon. As WWE heads into the new year with the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event in January, Rhodes could be poised to make a huge return at the multi-man battle royal.

The story around Rhodes’ desire to win the WWE Championship captivated the audience before his injury.

If Rhodes returns at the Royal Rumble, many would expect him to win the match. He could then challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania for the title.

Rhodes is clearly one of WWE’s popular and top stars, and a place in the main event upon his return is the perfect way to capitalize on his hype.
