SmackDown has had a strong history. While some moments were incredibly fascinating, others left fans confused. Neither of these moments were negative, but there is a clear line that differentiates them. The full list would include several matches from the blue brand’s creation in 1999. However, for now, we would stick to only the premiere shows that happened on FOX starting in 2019.

First, we are going to take a look at three of the best moments in SmackDown premiere history that left fans in awe, then three moments that left the viewers confused. Brock Lesnar is interestingly someone who has made his cut in both the shortlists.

The New Day was a team that won impressive feats during their time together. After a number of victories together, Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods decided that it was time to call off their partnership. So, the promotion booked them one last match in order to part ways for good. On October 16th, 2020, the team started their farewell match with a heartfelt speech. In that speech, they mentioned how they will always remain strong despite breaking up. The trio then went on to secure a victory over Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro & Sheamus.

On December 10th, 2021, we witnessed another iconic moment when The Beast Incarnate showed up on the SmackDown premiere that day. The night was kicked off by Sami Zayn, who complained to sue anyone involved in stopping his Universal Championship dream come true. He also accused Paul Heyman, who was then rescued by Brock Lesnar when the latter gave Zayn a proper beatdown.

Gunther and Sheamus finding themselves in a match on 7th October 2022 was also iconic. Especially given the background that the two faced each other a month before at Clash at the Castle, their rematch at SmackDown becomes even more valuable. Yet again, The Ring General was able to retain his Intercontinental Championship.

As packed as these premieres were of iconic moments, they also didn’t lack confusing times when fans wondered why the wrestling company went down a certain road.

Moments that probably made you question WWE

We are starting with Kofi Kingston again, but this time around, we might need to empathize with the wrestler. At the 20th Anniversary of SmackDown, when the premiere show kicked off, Lesnar challenged Kofi Kingston for his title. The New Day member was the reigning WWE Champion at the time. However, the ex-UFC Champion squashed him within 7 seconds.

Lars Sullivan’s match against Jeff Hardy during the October 16th premiere in 2020 can also be put on this list. Although Sullivan won, it didn’t make much sense because it was Hardy’s last run in WWE and the promotion made him lose this match only to fire Sullivan soon after.

When talking about confusing moments, Drew McIntyre‘s promo during the 2021 SmackDown premiere on December 10th also doesn’t disappoint. Searching for answers as to why he wasn’t on the list for the Black Friday Battle Royal a couple of weeks before the premiere, McIntyre arrived at Adam Pearce’s office. Then the official tried to put the blame on someone else. But to intimidate him nevertheless, McIntyre drove his big sword into Pearce’s office table.
