But CM Punk wasn’t one of them. He rebelled in the heat of the moment, in front of the public, and quite effectively embarrassed him.

With her contract coming to an end, this former WWE star pulled a line from Punk’s book, just to put salt to the wound. But the question is if it worked.

Just hours before the days changed count, Lacey Evans posted an image of her in sunglasses and looking away from the frame. In the caption, she wrote, “When the clock strikes 12, you will address me as Macey Estrella from here on out…….oh, and this jacket is up for grabs. Be on the lookout.” This is the way Evans possibly said goodbye to the WWE Universe.

She also changed her Instagram name to Macey Estrella along with including a title in the bio. The title conveniently said, formerly known as WWE Superstar Lacey Evans. While she left WWE, the former Marine took one line from CM Punk’s famous feud with John Cena in 2011 for her caption.

In 2011 Punk was involved in a heated feud with Cena which blurred the lines between kayfabe and reality. With his contract expiring there was much buzz about Punk winning the WWE Championship and walking out on Vince McMahon and WWE. He had embarrassed Vince McMahon publicly during the contract negotiations before deciding on extending his stay.

What could Lacey Evans do next in her career?

One thing that separated everyone else from Evans was her past as a Marine. This was something that she channeled close to her end in the company, even being criticized for copying Sgt. Slaughter. She could channel this once again if she gets called by WWE’s rivals Impact! or AEW.

But for something that worked with the crowd, her gimmick of the Southern Belle was very popular. Also, Evans works great as a mean-spirited heel who doesn’t leave any stone unturned. Many would claim that this was a predictable move from WWE, but Evans was a great worker and an entertaining wrestler in the ring.
