Gunther has been one of the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champions at WWE. He had defeated the former champion, Ricochet, back in June 2022 and has been sitting on the throne since then. However, a new threat looms over him. For the upcoming Survivor Series, The Miz aims to go against him for his chance at his championship title belt.

The Miz has been previously crowned the Intercontinental Champion. Even though he won the title eight times, his runs as the champion were short. Now has the colossal task of defeating the Ring General. However, it looks like the odds might be stacked in Gunther’s favor.

Gunther defeated Ricochet back in 2022. Following this, his reign as the champion is the longest crossing the 500-day mark. In these 500 + days, the Austrian star has successfully defended his title multiple times, a feat similar to that of Roman Reigns. Both the stars are the head of their respective stables and both are heels. However, one major difference that fans have noticed is that Gunther has rarely taken help from his stablemates to defend his title. While Reigns has his choke hold on SmackDown, Gunther has become the undisputed champion of the red brand.

The 36-year-old star has a towering physique and has taken on many foes all by himself. It might be possible that the higher-ups at WWE want him to be the ‘Roman Reigns of the mid-card.’ However, he might go further by establishing himself as a brand of his own. Even a WWE legend believes that Gunther might one day eventually dethrone Reigns to be the next head of the table. It’s not just Gunther but his other stablemates like Ludwig Kaiser and Giovani Vinci, who have established themselves as a fierce force. With them by his side, Gunther might soon climb up the ranks and might get bigger than The Tribal Chief.

However, with this support by WWE, comes greater challenges. While WWE might be pushing him to a great extent, there might be a beast lurking in the shadows to pounce on him at the right time.

Gunther might have to face The Beast

While WWE stars are in for a challenge, Gunther has declared who he thinks is his biggest challenge. In an interview, Gunther has said that he believes that his “End Boss”  is none other than Brock Lesnar. He happens to be one of the most feared stars in the promotion and is notorious for his beast-like demeanor. Gunther believes that if he finally defeats him, that could mean he has achieved the highest standard at WWE. However, this is not the first time he expressed his desire to face Lesnar. At the 2023 Royal Rumble, the two giants came face to face with each other. While the fans were able to feel the tension between the two, Gunther believed that taking him down would add the cherry to the cake of his career. In an interview following the Royal Rumble, Gunther expressed his desire to face Lesnar.

While many thought that the bout between the two would be a part of WrestleMania 39, the plans unfortunately did not materialize. However, there is still some hope left for fans. In a recent interview, Lesnar admitted that he too wishes to face off against Gunther. The reason is not that he deems him to be a worthy contender, but he wants his hands on the Intercontinental championship belt. It might be possible that Lesnar might show up following the aftermath of the Survivor Series. This will then set things in motion, making way for the big battle. While it has been reported that he might return around the WrestleMania season, fans might get lucky this time as they might witness the epic showdown at WrestleMania 40. One take at a time

For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let’s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
