While defending his title against Jay White at AEW Full Gear ’23, MJF faced a severe botch in the middle of the match. The match was going in the injured champion’s favor when he decided it was time to execute a planned spot. However, as soon as MJF went ahead to start this spot, he was met with a rather disappointing result. This was similar to what Dwayne Johnson faced in a match at Royal Rumble 2013.

MJF unknowingly references Dwayne Johnson during the AEW match

The Rock was wrestling CM Punk at Royal Rumble 2013 for the WWE Championship. During one of the spots, the WWE legend took his opponent to the announcer’s table. As both the wrestlers were standing on the table with Johnson ready to slam Punk down, it broke; botching the whole spot in the process. History repeated itself tonight during the main event at Full Gear.

As MJF led White to the announcer’s table, he tried throwing him onto the table. However, the table collapsed before the wrestler’s body could even rest on it.

A fan shared a captured clip with the rest of the users online. Even though both the wrestlers went ahead with their match, it was a botch that possibly took away a glorious spot from the match.

However, Friedman proved that he does not like to dwell in the past by destroying his opponent despite a severe leg injury he attained earlier in the event. The main event ended with the champion retaining his title against Jay White despite considerable odds and a botched table spot.

However, there’s a good chance that the two wrestlers wouldn’t even think twice about the failed spot. This is because the announcer’s table is infamous for failing a perfectly executed planned move. In fact, Dwayne Johnson provides perfect testimony for the same.

Dwayne Johnson can’t stop botching the table spot

During the same feud with CM Punk, one table botch wasn’t enough for The Brahma Bull. In fact, the Hollywood superstar went on to face the same opponent a month later at ‘Elimination Chamber’ in 2013. This time around, Punk wanted revenge for the time DJ put him on the table.

However, when ‘The Best in the World’ went ahead to hit his opponent with a ‘rock bottom’, the table didn’t break as per the expectations, causing the Samoan wrestler to slide off it instead.

A similar failure had happened several years earlier at Judgment Day 2002. This happened when The Rock tried a pedigree on Triple H on the announcer’s table during their one-hour-long match. The table didn’t break, causing both wrestlers to get hurt and slide off the table instead.
