The American Nightmare is the man of the moment at Stamford. The wrestler finally got to finish his story at WrestleMania 40, capturing the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and ending Roman Reigns’ 1316-day reign. Despite the immense backing he has from the Stamford-based company, one WWE legend failed to cement his stature just yet.

Cody Rhodes will defend his belt in the upcoming Premium Live Event, Backlash. There he faces AJ Styles in Lyon, France. The Phenomenal One earned this chance by winning a Triple Threat Match and then beating LA Knight in singles, taking his revenge after his loss at the Showcase of the Immortals. And now the American Nightmare will take on the Phenomenal One. Capable of having brilliant matches, being the champion, and arguably the biggest name on the current roster, can we say that Cody Rhodes can carry the torch now? The Deadman believes that a wrestler should satisfy certain qualities and parameters before they can be fit to be the next face of the promotion. In fact, they should also fit into the WWE system just to become a part of its roster. The WWE legend recently agreed with the assessment put forward by Triple H on this topic.

During an interview, Triple H talked about wrestlers who decide to sign with other companies because of the demanding schedule that WWE Superstars have to deal with. HHH also commented that if a young wrestler wasn’t willing to make that sacrifice, WWE probably wasn’t the right place for him. These comments generated a great deal of criticism towards Triple H, as many felt that they did not reflect a proper understanding of the needs and concerns of the wrestlers.

On an episode of the Six Feet Under podcast, The Undertaker gave his opinion on these statements and backed Triple H. Taker stated that having succeeded outside of WWE does not guarantee success in the company and that it is something that many fans do not understand. He said that what The Game said was true, but not everyone says it out loud. He further added that just because one has been a big star here or there, doesn’t mean he or she is going to fit into the WWE system without acclimatizing. That’s what most “smart marks” don’t understand, according to the Dead Man. So what do you think? Could Cody Rhodes be the next face of the new WWE era? Let us know in the comments.
