“We’re Paid an Absurd Amount of Money…”: Cody Rhodes Reveals Why He Embraced an ‘Ironic’ Aspect of Pro Wrestling

Cody Rhodes has come a long way from his initial days at WWE. Back during his early days, he was still a skinny person with less muscle growth, fighting hard for his place on the roster. Although always technically gifted, Rhodes failed to find a top spot on the roster.

WWE let go of him, Rhodes found his mark, and since then there was no looking back. After a successful AEW run, Rhodes would come back to WWE to win the Royal Rumble. Recently, during an interview with Ryan Satin, he revealed how he changed his physique and embraced a different culture, unlike his father.

Speaking in the interview, the 37-year-old would reveal how he embraced the bodybuilding culture and turned his physique around. He would justify his choices and also elaborate on how it differs from what his father did.

The American Nightmare is currently on his path to dethrone The Tribal Chief. Roman Reigns has been holding the title for over 900 days now, and it is finally time for someone able to topple him from the top of the table. And this time, it finally seems Cody Rhodes is the right person to do so.

Rhodes has the physique, the mic skills, and the wrestling abilities required to be the top guy in WWE. Speaking with Satin, he revealed what compelled him to change his physique.

Rhodes said, ” I’ve really gotten into you know the bodybuilding culture, and fitness, and physique. And one of the reasons I really like it is because when you look at wrestlers, male or female superstars. When you look at them, a really good way to tell how hard they are working is how they look.”

He further claimed that young people in their early 20s should really work hard and see the results. He further claimed his life motto to be doing the work and seeing his physical goals manifest. Rhodes further revealed, “we’re paid an absurd amount of money to be superheroes for the evening. And I wanna look like the damn best.”

The former Intercontinental Champion would conclude with how he found similarities between bodybuilding and sports entertainment and claiming how he differs from his father.

He said, “incredibly ironic because clearly my father was not into that side of the business at all. But again, we are very different. We share some things, a wild blood in common but yeah that wasn’t his thing but hopefully it’s becoming mine.” Rhodes’ father never had the bodybuilder look, but he was one of the best wrestlers in the industry.
