While Damian Priest won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Cody Rhodes finished his story with the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion. Marking the start of a new era, Michael Cole announced on WWE RAW after ‘Mania about the upcoming WWE draft.

What is the upcoming WWE draft?

Announced by Michael Cole on RAW, and followed by Triple H on social media, WWE is yet to host an upcoming event of WWE draft. While two dates for the drafts have been announced, the company has yet to announce the entire pool. NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov has been declared for the draft, while fans await other names. In simple terms, the WWE draft is an event that allows WWE superstars to jump brands, from SmackDown to RAW, and vice versa.

The draft has turned into a sort of annual tradition to keep the WWE programming fresh. The shuffling of superstars on different brands keeps the storyline from going stale, and keeps it blazing amongst the fans. However, in 2012, the company decided to unify the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship into one title, called the WWE World Heavyweight Championship thus ending the brand split.

The draft event takes place over a period of two nights. The event takes place with two representatives from each brands choosing their picks aka superstars. Each brand gets a set number of picks, however, for every two draft picks by SmackDown, Raw receives three because Raw is a lengthier show than SmackDown.

While both the brand announce their picks on the show, sometimes the names missed on the shows, get announced on the company’s social media platforms.

The upcoming 2024 WWE draft is one of the most important events of the year. The draft will predict the future of multiple superstars and their fate over the year. While many champions can jump brands, several tag teams can split as well.

Several NXT superstars shall be on the pool as well, including the one declared name, Ilja Dragunov. Fans now need to wait and see what will happen on April 26th SmackDown, and April 29th Raw.
