“What They Were Going Through”: WWE CCO Triple H Talks About Sobering Experience at the Site of 9/11

There were many who lost a loved one on the gruesome day that was September 11, 2001. However, many frontline workers, firefighters, police officers, and emergency workers risked it all to save hundreds of lives. They spent day and night at the site of the deadly events that we can never forget. These heroes truly deserve our praise and gratitude. Many WWE legends, including current CCO Triple H, actually visited the site in person and interacted with these real-life legends.
In a bonus segment from Never Forget: WWE Returns After 9/11, Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Triple H, and others paid a visit to Ground Zero, the former site of the World Trade Center in New York City, barely one month after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. They shared their experiences at the site, and their interactions with the people there.

Triple H shares his experience
Hunter revealed that visiting Ground Zero was more severe than he had expected. “Every show you watch everything was was that and you’d seen it and you’d heard it but as you were driving into the city, there was a moment in time where for the first time you smelled it, that was a very sobering moment,” said an emotional Triple H.

Levesque continued, talking about the surreal experience of meeting these everyday heroes who put everything on the line to serve their duty. He continued, “When you saw the look on the people’s faces that were going through what they were going through, that somebody cared enough to go where they were, and thank them, shake their hand, take a moment, anything. It was incredible.”

WWE and the 9/11
After 9/11, the United States as a whole experienced an all-time peak in feelings of fear, perplexity, and despair. No one knew whether there would be another attack. Many people were unable to contact relatives or their family in New York. Indeed, it was a terrible period in history. Two days after the attacks, Vince McMahon decided to host a live SmackDown, which is the subject of the documentary “Never Forget: WWE Returns After 9/11.”

The live SmackDown, which aired from Houston on September 13, 2001, was the first large-scale public gathering in the chaotic and horrific days that followed 9/11. It served as a rally against terrorism and a reminder of the resiliency of the United States and its people.

Vince McMahon gave a message at the beginning, speaking of a united and proud country. Lilian Garcia performed the heartfelt anthem on the programme, and she almost sobbed as she sang it, which caused many people to cry. The airing of SmackDown imbibed the true, unyielding spirit of humanity in the wake of 9/11.
