WWE’s merger with the UFC might have been good news for top brass like Triple H and Nick Khan who received hefty bonuses. But it was definitely bad news for the 100 employees who were laid off just a few days ago. As the talent roster cut began on Thursday, former WWE Tag Team Champion who is now a ‘free agent’ is worried about his own future.
This is also not the first time that WWE has let go so many of its wrestlers. Similar layoffs happened in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

Of late many top WWE stars have been making appearances on NXT and even winning the top Championships there. As in the case of ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio and Becky Lynch who have helped increase NXT’s ratings by leaps and bounds. Similarly some ‘free agent’ stars also sometimes perform on the NXT brand.

Ex-WWE Tag Team Champion Cedric Alexander who has been out of action since February 2023 is also a ‘free agent’. With the current round of WWE layoffs, he is also doubtful of his career with the WWE. Hence he is hoping that maybe he is given a second chance at NXT.
He posted a video on Twitter of his debut on the NXT brand in 2016 where he wrestled Charlotte Flair’s husband Andrade “Cien” Almas. Alexander expressed his hope of being absorbed into the brand soon. He said, “My first official match under the @WWENXT brand. I was only around for a couple of months. With my “free agent” status I wonder if there is room for an extended stay with the black and gold brand 🤔?”
Alexander had a fantastic run in the Hurt Business faction from 2020-2022 before it was split up. Since then despite teasing a reunion of the faction, Alexander has not been booked by WWE for a long time this year and although he is signed to the company, he is a free agent in the sense he can appear on any brand. With the latest round of layoffs, he might be looking to book a place on NXT for another run there.
