Will PGA Tour and LIV Golf work together and leave all the hatred behind them? It has been the question everyone has been asking since the Saudi-backed Invitational Series came into existence. Many golfers have shown interest in merging the Tour and the league. However, does the Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, think the same? 

“Well, I think words and actions are important,” Monahan said in an exclusive interview with ESPN. “I think it’s impractical when you look at the fact that certain players have sued the PGA Tour,” he explained why working with LIV Golf is impossible. “Their employer has sued the PGA Tour.” 

Tour has suspended all the players who joined the new league indefinitely. And some of the players, including Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau, have filed an anti-trust lawsuit so that they can play in the Tour events. 

Does the LIV Golf stand a chance to ever work with the PGA Tour? 

Recently, Rory McIlroy expressed that the Tour officials and the LIV Golf officials need to talk. Notably, the 2022 FedEx Cup champion has been against the Saudi-backed league since its inception. However, he now wants the two parties to find peace for the betterment of the sport. 

The Irish golfer even expressed how he hopes the LIV events get OWGR approval so that some of the best players in the world won’t get degraded. However, the Tour commissioner does agree with his opinion.

Dustin Johnson Reflects on Creating a ‘Dynasty’ in LIV Golf

Monahan explained in the interview that the American golf organization would never work with the LIV Golf league. “It’s not in the cards. It hasn’t been in the cards and it’s not in the cards.” He added, “I think we’ve been pretty consistent on that front.” 

When is the next LIV Golf Invitational Series event? 

The next event in the LIV Series will begin on October 7, Friday this week. Like the last five times, the 54-hole tournament will have a shotgun start and offers $25 million purse money.  

Unlike the last four events, none of the American golf clubs are hosting the tournament. Instead, the Stonehill Golf Course in Bangkok, Thailand, is hosting the event. The Thailand-based course is new, as the venue opened in 2022. 

It will be interesting to see how the players adjust to the new conditions. Who do you think will win the event in Stonehill?
