Alexander Zverev Joins Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in a Record Milestone Following Victory at 2021 Mexican Open

World No.7 Alexander Zverev won the 14th ATP title of his career at the 2021 Mexican Open. Zverev defeated No.1 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in the final to clinch the trophy at Acapulco.
Prior to the match, Zverev had a grim head-to-head record against Tsitsipas and had lost in their last five meetings. The victory marks Zverev’s first title of the 2021 season, which is an enormous boost ahead of the Miami Open.

Notably, Zverev continues his streak of winning at least one ATP title each season. Post his title win at Acapulco, he now has won at least one ATP title each season since 2016, which puts him on the list alongside some top players.

In 2016, Zverev won his maiden career title at the St. Petersburg Open. The following year, the German won an impressive five ATP titles including two Masters’ 1000 trophies, which remain his best season to date.
Interestingly, 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has the longest consecutive streak of 17 years (2004-2020) of winning at least one ATP title each season. Trailing Nadal is his arch-rival Novak Djokovic, whose streak stands at 16 consecutive years (2006-2021).

However, Zverev’s consistency hasn’t translated yet into Grand Slam success. Although, he finished as the runner-up at the 2020 US Open, which marked the first time Zverev reached a Grand Slam final.
Up next, Zverev heads to Miami Open, a tournament that got canceled last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2018, Zverev had reached the finals of the Miami Open but lost to John Isner.

Since Nadal, Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Dominic Thiem have withdrawn from the Miami Open, the draw has become relatively easier for Zverev.
In the Big-3’s absence, Daniil Medvedev will headline the event at Miami Open, with Zverev as the No.3 seed.
