Apex Legends boasts a diverse character roster, with each legend having unique ability kits. Season 6 marked the arrival of the quick-witted modder Rampart, who classifies as a defensive legend.

Rampart’s tactical ability allows her to deploy multiple protective covers that block incoming gunfire and amplify outgoing damage. She can mount the ‘Sheila’ minigun by activating her ultimate for herself and her teammates to use. Meanwhile, her passive ability makes the LMGs and her minigun way more powerful in her hands.

However, Rampart has endured a tough start to life in the Apex Games as she has one of the lowest legend usage rates in the game. While the Season 7 update tweaked her ability kit a bit, she still has quite the way to go to achieve the stats of popular legends like Wraith, Bloodhound, and Horizon. Some would even argue other defensive legends like Caustic or Gibraltar have overall better abilities compared to Rampart.

Despite the limitations, there are many Rampart mains in the Apex community, and the consensus among them is their favorite character needs more improvements. Now, it seems the developers are aware of Rampart’s situation as they think she could use some more power.

Apex Legends game designer thinks Rampart’s passive has “room for a little more power”

In a video posted on Reddit, u/BottlecapYT showcased Rampart’s capabilities while destroying opponents and fortifying the train in the Winter Express LTM. Under the thread, another player asked about the possibility of a buff for the character’s passive ability. The comment drew a reply from a Respawn dev, who shared his thoughts about the ability.

Apex’s lead game designer Daniel Klein said, “Having it be specific to LMGs is a good thing. It makes you think differently about what weapons you wanna pick up in a game. LMGs are a sucky weapon class atm, but that’s fine too; a character who’d get a weapon class-specific buff on ARs or SMGs would be broken.

Finding the right tuning on it isn’t easy. There’s a tuning level where we make it so strong that it becomes mandatory to find and play with an LMG on Rampart, which I think would be sad. I think there’s room for a little more power in there, but it’ll never be a character-defining passive.

As mentioned by the dev, finding the correct balance is a difficult task. They don’t want to make Rampart’s passive overpowered to the point where players pick her only to use an LMG. However, there could be a possibility for some minor buffs or reworks in their plans. But at this moment, it’s unclear when those potential improvements would be made.

The good news for Rampart mains is that Respawn tweaks the characters’ powers often to balance them. Therefore, it is only a matter of time before the legend receives her share of affection from the devs.
