“Don’t Know What’s Going on”: 10-Time Grand Slam Champion Shocked to See Novak Djokovic Back in ATP Players Council

According to reports, Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil have decided to return to the ATP Players Council. The duo decided to go ahead with their Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) towards the end of the US Open 2020. However, after criticism from several key players like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, they have changed their decision.
Recently, the 10-time Grand Slam champion Bruno Soares expressed his opinion on the same. Soares, one of the key supporters of the PTPA, revealed that he was unaware of anything happening with the PTPA at the moment.
“Yeah, I saw the list. Not only them. There is a bunch of people. It’s quite interesting because they resigned three months ago to go ahead with PTPA. I don’t really know what’s going on on the PTPA. I was kicked out from their chat. I guess because I stayed in the player council, so I don’t know their ideas. I don’t know what they are doing. Don’t know much, to be honest about them,” said a confused-looking Soares.

The PTPA was actually a proposed body of both male and female players. It was basically an idea to protect the interest of professional tennis players as they believed that the ATP was not taking care of them. However, now it looks as if that idea would never come into practicality.

Soares highlighted the fact that Djokovic and Pospisil used to ignore him as he continued to stay at the ATP Council. He said, ironically, it is they who were running in the upcoming elections at the ATP.
“Yeah, I mean, I guess it’s quite interesting to see them running. Don’t really know, I mean, because we don’t hear from players. There is not like a political campaign. That we hear players talking about what they are gonna do if they get elected. So, yeah, I mean, I’m probably as shocked and curious as just like you guys with both of them resigning three months ago and then running again,” added Soares.

It was certainly astonishing to Soares after seeing Djokovic and Pospisil resigning from the Council three months before and then running for posts at this moment. He was certainly unaware of any decision and was felt left out.
The decision of re-joining surely puts a halt to the PTPA. Some fans and players are definitely unhappy, as they haven’t heard anything officially from Djokovic.
