There was a time when the 32-year-old tennis player was giving attack competition on the court, but after struggling for years now, things are getting better for him. Recently, he made it to the final of the Miami Open while having a late-career resurgence. But the biggest question is: what happened that brought about such a good change in him?

While this year, has been great for him, there is a person behind the ATP star’s late rise on the tennis court. It’s none other than the British coach, Jamie Delgado, who changed the game for the former third-ranked tennis player in a good way with millions of prize money in hand.

While everyone talks about Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner rising on the court, Dimitrov is celebrating a late start in his career and giving a tough competition to make his place in the Miami Open final. It’s only been a few months since the 2024 tennis season started, but he has achieved a victory on the court and literally made $1.1 million in prize money after joining hands with Andy Murray’s ex-coach.

Even though the British former tennis player was not able to do wonders on the court as a coach, While the million-dollar prize money also includes the Miami runner-up amount, things can get better and better if he wins the tournament. Not only did he find victories with his new coach, but he also made his place in the top ranks once again, making sure that it’s never too late for victories.

A few months ago, Delgado, who is well-known for his ability to teach Andy Murray due to his incredible accomplishments—which include winning the 2016 Wimbledon championship, his second Olympic gold medal, and the top ranking in the world—made a big decision by joining the Dimitrov team.

Based on the Bulgarian tennis player’s recent achievements, Delgado’s switch to coaching has had remarkable outcomes. Dimitrov has experienced a remarkable comeback since 2014 and has reached back-to-back semi-finals in Paris under Delgado’s tutelage. Not only that, but recently the 32-year-old also opened up about how he manages things with his coach and even highlighted his relationship with him.

Dimitrov’s take on his equation with Jamie Delgado 

During a press conference after defeating Zverev, he was talking about how the British tennis coach had added a champion to his coaching team. To which he replied, saying that nearly a year and a half ago, he was looking for someone to fit into his team, and when they met the 49-year-old former tennis player, they hit it off and understood the importance of what they had to do every single day.

He said, “I think he’s definitely one of the hardest workers that are out there that always, in a way, expects good excellence from me on a daily basis, but also being kind enough with me when I’m not recognizing that part of myself, I’m very hard on myself on weeks of practice, and, I mean, I think overall, but he’s been able to, I think, to balance me up on that end a little bit more and on good days to keep me, you know, grounded and humble and aware of things.”

Not only that but he also highlighted how whenever he is having a bad day, he tries to look out to the positive side of the story, and he keeps him motivated to do better and better, restoring his face the next day with a good working ethic and a better attitude.
