World No.1 Daniil Medvedev recently emerged as the winner of the US Open 2021. The Russian defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the finals and ended his 27-match winning streak at the Grand Slams. The final scoreline of the match was 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
In a recent interview to Welovetennis.com, World No.15 Diego Schwartzman revealed that a shift of guard is taking place in the sport and that is good for it. He believes Medvedev winning the US Open 2021 title will, in a way, bring down the dominance of Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer.
“It’s possible and it makes sense for it to happen. Perhaps the illogic thing is that every year, we wonder how long they would continue to win everything. Rafa and Roger had injuries. Djokovic is still at a very high level and they are all legends who do their best and if they are physically well, they are still the best,” said Schwartzman in the interview.
