From Tuesday onwards, Novak Djokovic will begin his campaign for the calendar-year Grand Slam at US Open 2021. Along with that, he could also get ahead of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s career haul; the three currently have 20 majors each. However, second seed Daniil Medvedev is confident that none of that will happen.
First of all, the 2019 finalist in New York sang all praises for the top seed Djokovic. Afterward, Medvedev clarified that he is “not here to let him win the US Open.”

The duo had last met in this year’s Australian Open final, where the Serbian ace beat Medvedev in straight sets. Six months later, the Russian has now grown an insatiable thirst for his maiden Grand Slam title.
Daniil Medvedev on stopping Novak Djokovic at US Open 2021
In the pre-tournament presser, Medvedev called Djokovic “amazing” for finding a foot in the Federer and Nadal era. As a child, he used to think that the Serbian might win a few Grand Slams, but not compete at the same level with the legendary duo. The rest is indeed history now.
But all this does not keep the 25-year-old from his goals in New York. And considering his time in Toronto and Cincinnati, Medvedev has all the right to feel confident.

“I’m going to try my best to keep it at 20 for all of them. I’m sure Novak wants 45 slams, playing until 55,” Medvedev said. “But we’re here to try to keep up at his level and to beat him.”
“Again, we’re not here to let him win the US Open. I want to win the US Open, I don’t care if it’s in the final against a qualifier or against Novak. I just want to win this tournament.”
As the top two seeds in the draw, Djokovic and Medvedev might meet in the US Open 2021 final. And given the history, the 34-year-old Serbian is the biggest favorite in Flushing Meadows.
