Novak Djokovic’s Worrying Wrist Injury Ahead of the Australian Open: Is a Repeat of 2018 on the Cards?

Hoping to start the new year in the same position where he left, Novak Djokovic dealt with a heavy blow. The Serbian, who is currently playing in the United Cup, suffered an injury to the wrist that took a toll on him. After playing his singles match in pain, he decided not to play in the mixed doubles match. However, this is not the first time that something of that sort has happened to him.

Back in 2018, Novak Djokovic suffered a wrist injury that forced him to be out of the courts for a long time. That being said, fans are now starting to worry if his injury concerns are of the same extent as what happened to him six years ago.

As Novak Djokovic deals with a wrist injury again, his fans are worried if it’ll be like in 2018, when he had a similar problem during the Australian Open. Playing at the United Cup, he had to quit a doubles match due to this wrist issue, making folks concerned about his readiness for the upcoming tournament.

In 2018, after Djokovic lost at the Australian Open because of his wrist injury, he had to undergo an operation to fix it. This surgery, however, made him miss other important matches too. He was sidelined from subsequent tournaments like the Davis Cup and the Monte Carlo Masters. Now, with Novak Djokovic facing a wrist problem again, everyone wonders if he’s going to miss the upcoming Australian Open.

However, despite the injury, Novak Djokovic found a way to feature in the match and bring out his best performance. In the interview after his match, Djokovic suggested that he played despite the pain as he found his way to deal with it.

Djokovic has found ways to deal with his wrist pain

In the post-match interview, Novak Djokovic came ahead and talked about the injury while suggesting that it is not the first or the last time that anything of this sort has happened to him. He further went on to add that he found a way to manage it just like any other situation and was able to manage it right till the end.

“I managed to play through. It’s not the first time or the last time, these things happen. You just have to manage. You have to find a solution and thankfully I managed to finish,” said Novak Djokovic in the post-match interview.

Thus, he, who was looking to start things on a high, could not get the best reception from the new year. However, despite injury concerns, Novak Djokovic has managed to play his best game and helped his team reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.
