World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and World No. 3 Rafael Nadal engaged in an epic battle at the Italian Open 2021 final. After almost three hours and three thriller sets, the Spaniard prevailed to improve his record to 10 titles in Rome.
Primarily, the victory reiterated Rafa’s ever-growing dominance on clay tennis courts. However, this does not undermine or cast a shadow on Djokovic’s tireless performance in the Italian capital. For the same reason, his wife, Jelena Djokovic, found a quirky way of praising her husband.

On his way to the final, Rafael Nadal defeated Jannik Sinner, Denis Shapovalov, Alexander Zverev, and Reilly Opelka in Rome. Most significantly, he recovered from a set and a 3-0 lead and saved two match points against Shapovalov in round three.
Naturally, his survival story spread like wildfire as the internet hailed the King of Clay. One among the many admirers was New York Times tennis correspondent Christopher Clarey.

Clarey took to Twitter to define the 20-time Grand Slam champion. He wrote, “Nadal (noun). 1) a Spanish tennis player who will fight no matter the score and usually find a way to win. 2) Clay.”

Comparatively, Novak Djokovic also scraped through a couple of close encounters. Before playing the final on Sunday, the Serbian defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas from a set down and Italian Lorenzo Sonego in a 2 hour 45 minute battle on Saturday.
The defending champion pushed Nadal to his limits and accepted the runners-up trophy gracefully. Thus, his wife Jelena Djokovic felt that it is the right time to define her husband in glowing terms.
Tagging Clarey in her Instagram story, Jelena wrote, “Add another noun, please. Djokovic (noun). 1) a Serbian player who will find a way to win no matter the crowd or score.”
