The tennis player went all out and tried his hand at gambling even after growing in stature in professional tennis. But almost ten years after that admission, the 70-year-old tennis champion made a wise choice by offering his own financial guidance, which he is using nowadays.

Yes, there was once a time when the 70-year-old tennis player placed a huge 7-figure wager due to his gambling addiction. He eventually detailed his gambling addictions in his memoir ‘The Outsider,’ which was published in 2013.

Jimmy Connors shares his smart financial advice 

In a recent episode of the Advantage Connors podcast, the eight-time Grand Slam winner discussed his current financial strategy in light of the rapidly deteriorating American economy. The former tennis player was talking about cryptocurrencies and his personal financial choices at the same time.

He said, “You know for me, I am at a point where I am not looking to make a lot. I am just trying not to lose a lot. I worked awful hard, to get to where we are, and to have this kind of lifestyle. And I like it and I am doing the best. I can to try to keep some up because it seems that man. Oh man, they’re trying to take it faster than we can make it.”

Additionally, he discussed how he is attempting to adjust in comparison to other financial experts, who are obviously knowledgeable about the market and never pass up an opportunity to pick up speed. Nevertheless, he implied that he had changed his financial perspective as a result of his gambling addiction. As there was a time when the 70-year-old tennis player was on the cusp of losing millions in gambling.

When Connors almost lost a million to his gambling addiction

When the eight-time Grand Slam champion wrote his memoir, many tennis fans were stunned to learn that he had a significant gambling problem for practically his entire career. In it, he disclosed that he routinely gambled over the tennis matches he used to play in and that he loved gambling just as much as he loved playing tennis.

He once placed a $1 million bet on a match between Martina Navratilova and himself, in a forgotten battle of the sexes match in 1992. After Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs’ renowned match, it was Connors’ turn to take on the 59-time Grand Slam champion. He made the bet believing that he would defeat Navratilova, but he nearly lost the match. It proved to be one of the crucial turning points in overcoming his addiction to gambling.
