Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev has been a formidable force in the men’s game. He has been regularly grabbing the headlines for the past couple of seasons. He has already begun this year on a great note.

Andrey Rublev voices his opinion on recent controversies 

Recently, Rublev was asked about the claims made by British minister Nigel Huddleston on not allowing Russian players to compete at the Wimbledon Championships later this year. The World No. 6 player felt that sports and politics should not be mixed.

Speaking on this issue, he stated, “I think we should show a great example that tennis should be out of politics. Not just tennis, sports in general. We want to compete, we sacrifice so many things, we don’t see our family. Many of the athletes change their homes because of the conditions of the sport they are doing. Like basketball and football, you have to move completely if you move from one team to the other completely and stuff like that.”

Coming to tennis, Rublev did not have the best start as he came as far as the third round of the Australian Open 2022. Post that, he came to the semifinal of the Rotterdam Open before losing. 

Superb results in recent tournaments 

He won the Open 13 in Marseille, which gave a boost to his confidence. Following that, he won the Dubai Tennis Championships. At the moment, he is competing at the Indian Wells and has booked a spot in the semifinal after beating Grigor Dimitrov.
