Andrey Rublev voices his opinion on recent controversies
Recently, Rublev was asked about the claims made by British minister Nigel Huddleston on not allowing Russian players to compete at the Wimbledon Championships later this year. The World No. 6 player felt that sports and politics should not be mixed.
Speaking on this issue, he stated, “I think we should show a great example that tennis should be out of politics. Not just tennis, sports in general. We want to compete, we sacrifice so many things, we don’t see our family. Many of the athletes change their homes because of the conditions of the sport they are doing. Like basketball and football, you have to move completely if you move from one team to the other completely and stuff like that.”
