Italian Open Schedule: Naomi Osaka, Gael Monfils, and Local Hero Fabio Fognini Gear up to Test Their Fate in Rome

The Rome Masters has finally commenced! The Italian Open is underway with a round of 128 and the tennis world is going to witness a few gigantic clashes right off the bat. Naomi Osaka and Gael Monfils are ready to take control of their run in Rome. They will be joined by local favorite Fabio Fognini as he aims to overcome the contest in the Italian capital. 

Eight courts will hold the matches for day 1 in Rome. The Center Court, the Grandstand Arena, the Pietrangeli, Court 12, Court 1, Court 2, Court 13 and Court 4. Matches will be held in day and evening sessions, with some exciting match-ups in the center court to kickstart the tournament.

Matches at the center court will kick off at 11:00 am CEST. Where Luciano Darderi will play against Denis Shapovalov, who found his way into the main draw with the help of a protected ranking. Their clash will be followed by comeback star Naomi Osaka, who will face Clara Burel on the court. Another WTA match will follow Osaka’s clash. Sofia Kenin will play against local favorite Lucia Bronzetti.

After a break, the evening sessions will begin and will hold two matches before wrapping up. Daniel Evans will fight against a local favorite, Fabio Fognini, who is at the 92nd rank. He managed to enter the main draw with the help of a wild card. Day 1 will close out with the match of another local favorite, Sara Errani, as she will face Amanda Anisimova.

Grand Stand Arena

The clashes in the Grand Stand Arena will also begin at 11:00 am CEST. The Croatian Donna Vekic will play against the Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko. Following their bout, qualifier Maximillian Marterer will play against rank-57 Flavio Cobolli. Katerina Siniakova will then play Naples native Nuria Brancaccio. 

The following bout will be held between the qualifier Renata Zarazua will have her first bout against Elisabetta Cocciaretto. With no time slot skipped, we will then see the clash of two Italian wildcards. Matteo Gigante will play against Giulio Zeppieri to finish day 1 at the Grand Stand Arena.

The Pietrangeli

The Pietrangeli will follow a similar pattern as the Grand Stand Arena, with matches beginning at 11:00 am CEST. Jakub Mensik returns from his withdrawal in the Madrid Open to face Yannick Hanfmann in the first round. Their match will be followed by the first WTA clash at the Pietrangeli. Diane Parry, who also returns from injury after the Open De Rouen, will play against Anna Blinkova.

The third bout of the day will be the one that will likely attract most fans. Gael Monfils will play against the qualifier, Thiago Monteiro. Arthur Rinderkench will then play against the qualifier Francesco Passaro, which will then be followed by the qualifier Rebecca Sramkova taking on wildcard Giorgia Pedone.

Along with them, Alex Michelsen will also start his Italian Open run on Court 12, facing Pavel Kotov. In court 1, Roman Safiullin will play against lucky loser Corentin Moutet in the final clash for the day. Court 4 will commence the day by kickstarting the match between Taylor Townsend and qualifier Brenda Fruhvirtova. The 2024 Italian Open has set up great clashes for us. Which one will you watch?
