As the 2021 season is soon to end, the focus is already on the new season and specifically the Australian Open 2022. Whenever the new season is about to begin, players step up their preparation with an eye on the first Grand Slam event of the year.

Recently, it came to the knowledge of fans that Tennis Australia suffered from losses majorly due to the pandemic. The organization went out of its way to make sure a successful edition of the Australian Open took place in 2021. They had to spend way above the limited budget to ensure the completion of the Grand Slam tournament.

Tennis Australia reveals numbers surrounding the Australian Open
Tennis Australia declared losses of approximately $100m Australian dollars in the period from 30 June 2020 to 30 September 2021. The losses were approximately to the tune of $75m in the twelve months, ranging from 30 September 2020 to 30 September 2021 plus another $25m between 30 June 2020 and 30 September 2020.
Speaking about the Australian Open, the enormous expenses were all thanks to players being tested regularly along with hotel reservations and the use of charter flights to transport players to Melbourne from locations such as Doha, Dubai, and Los Angeles.

Hosting the qualifying rounds from various other cities in different nations, Tennis Australia missed out on the opportunity to capitalize on earnings from hosting it on Australian soil. However, they have high hopes running on the shoulders of the 2022 edition of the Australian Open.
Players have stepped up their preparation for the first Grand Slam of the new season. In the 2021 edition, Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka won titles in the men’s and women’s categories.
