NBA Rumors: Brooklyn Nets Take Major Step Towards Trading Kyrie Irving As Kevin Durant Regains Form

Brooklyn Nets registered their first win of the season as they beat the Sixers 114-109 at the Wells Fargo Center. However, they’ve been without their star guard, Kyrie Irving, in the first two games of the 2021-22 season. The Nets have disallowed Kyrie Irving from joining the team’s training sessions.
Earlier this month, the Nets decided to not allow Kyrie to their practice sessions until he complies with the city’s rules. This sparked rumors of him being traded to a different team ahead of the new season. However, not much has changed since then.
Kevin Durant has regained his form and had a strong outing against the Sixers earlier today. Now the Nets have taken a major step towards trading Kyrie to a different team. The Nets have reportedly started answering calls regarding Kyrie Irving.

The Nets are answering calls from different teams, but Woj added that they themselves aren’t calling anyone on this. However, at least the Nets have started responding to other teams on a possible trade. However, Kyrie’s situation is far from solved.

Kyrie has a player option with the Nets, so this could be the right time for the Nets to start discussing a possible trade deal. Kyrie’s player option would allow the 29-year-old to either extend his stay till the 2022-23 season or become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
The Nets aren’t the only NBA team in this situation. The Sixers are also finding it hard to trade their star, Ben Simmons. Many rumors ahead of the season suggested that the Sixers and the Nets could potentially strike a deal involving Kyrie and Ben.

However, neither team has initiated the process for a deal of that kind. In fact, according to Woj, the Nets are the only team to whom the Sixers haven’t contacted. So, as of now, a Kyrie Irving trade is a long shot.
