Unlike other sports, boxing has more rivalries and controversies, which attract spectators. The higher the intensity of the exchange of leather between two boxers, the limelight garnered is equally enormous, unlike other sports. However, some rivalries between greatly skilled stalwarts mark history and linger in the head for years.

Among such is the biggest slugfest of 2018 and 2017 between undisputed super-middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez and the Kazak legend Gennady Golovkin.

After a long spell of 2 years, the boxing spectators who witnessed ‘The Fight of The Year 2018’, still believe that there will be a showdown between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez. Recently, the probable clash between the two greatest middleweights of this generation ignited on the internet and left social media platforms buzzing with speculations. However, while interacting with FightHype.com, the two-time WBC super-middleweight champion, David Benavidez, compared the 39-year-old stalwart with the former four-weight class champion, Juan Marquez.

‘Red Flag’ said, “How old was Marquez when they never thought he was going to knock thousands. So I feel Golovkin probably needs that opponent to bring it out in him again. I mean, I don’t even know what people tell he’s been knocking everybody out. You know it’s just that it doesn’t look the same, but he’s been knocking these guys out the first couple rounds, and he’s coming up to 168.” 

According to a 25-year-old pugilist, Golovkin is still a dangerous fighter, and it’s going to be a great showdown between the two highly skilled technicians.

The rivalry between former British star Juan Marquez and one of the greatest stalwarts of all times Manny Pacquiao begin in 2001. However, this ended with the fourth clash in December 2012, when the ‘Dynamite’ seized the Filipino star on ropes in the 6th round with counter over-righthand.

When ‘Dynamite’ knocked down ‘PacMan’, he was of the same age as Golovkin. However, prior to the fourth rumble, all fights fought before were ended with controversies.
