Canelo Alvarez faced the first loss of his career against Floyd Mayweather Jr., which broke his zero-loss streak. Alvarez was a young boxer when he fought Mayweather on Sep 14, 2013. And in an original DAZN series ‘The Making Of‘, Canelo Alvarez stated that in the end, it was a matter of experience. He also claimed that if Floyd Mayweather and he fought today, he’d not be beaten by the former five-division world champion. Canelo Alvarez has always felt that it was not the right time for him to go against Mayweather. But this doesn’t mean he feels any remorse toward his defeat. In a recent interview, Alvarez praised Mayweather and claimed that he will always be ‘the best ever’.

Super-Middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez has long been placed at the top of the pound-for-pound ranking. ‘Cinnamon’ is definitely one of the best boxers the world has seen, his name is going to go down in the verses of history and nobody can raise a question about that. He’s still fighting and next, he’s scheduled to go against John Ryder on May 6th, 2023.

He said, “Nobody is comparable to Floyd Mayweather.” The reporter asks him again to confirm his denial, and then he replied, “Nobody“. Even though Mayweather gave Alvarez a loss by a majority decision, this displays the respect he has for the legendary boxer, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. But this took time, as Canelo Alvarez initially couldn’t easily accept his first loss.

It was difficult for Alvarez to cope with his first loss

In the DAZN Original series, The Making Of, Canelo Alvarez talked about how it took him some days to understand that losing is not really that bad. As if he’d won against Mayweather, he may have received everything that he’s ever wanted. Money and fame, wouldn’t be scarce in his life, but these may have side effects and there is a chance that he may have faced a hedonistic lifestyle.

Alvarez said, “I’ve always said that perhaps if I’d won that night, everything would have come my way. Fame, money, and perhaps it wouldn’t have worked out well then. I could’ve perhaps gone crazy.” He further stated that he had to tell himself that it just wasn’t his moment and he gradually learned to deal with it over time.
