While he had plans to fight Teofimo Lopez, he may have changed them after ‘The Takeover’ lost his unified lightweight straps to George Kambosos Jr. in November 2021.

That said Lomachenko can directly face George Kambosos Jr., something which his promoter Bob Arum has already outlined.

In an exclusive chat, the Top Rank honcho said, “We are talking to the Kambosos Jr people about Loma going to Australia, which Loma is prepared to do.” 

“It would be a huge fight in Australia. But we have a Covid-19 problem to clear, which I think we can do. This fight, against Kambosos Jr in Australia, is my first-choice for Loma. Loma is well-prepared to do it.”

Vasyl Lomachenko has agreed to battle ‘Ferocious’ in Australia. It can be an intriguing lightweight feast of action for the fans. However, WBC lightweight titlist Devin Haney has also expressed his interest in facing Kambosos Jr. in an undisputed title clash. Hence, Lomachenko may have to take a back seat if ‘The Dream’ topples the race by bagging the fight.

Vasyl Lomachenko is in a division full of A-listers

The lightweight division is currently stacked. If the A-listers opt to battle the best, we can witness some of the most electrifying matchups happen. Thus, Lomachenko can bag many of the big fights, even if he doesn’t get his hands on George Kambosos Jr.

However, if ‘The Matrix’ wants an immediate title shot, he will have to box either Kambosos Jr, Devin Haney, or Gervonta Davis.

As several more non-titlists are also lurking over the championship scene, that will enrich Lomachenko’s pool of opponents. Similarly, it will also endanger his top-tier position, putting the Ukrainian legend before some of the toughest tests of his in-ring career.
