After having overturned his short-lived retirement, Shakur Stevenson is all set to enter the ring this summer. In fresh reports, pertinent details of his next in-ring stint have emerged.
In January, the 26-year-old fighter had announced that he would be hanging his gloves for good, but would not give up on the sport as his passion. A little less than two weeks later, the fighter ended his retirement from the ring and noted on social media that he’d “fight any and everybody.” Weeks later, here we are, learning about the date and venue of his next fight.

On X, first relayed by Dan Rafael, and then reported by Michael Benson, it was notified that the WBC lightweight champion will fight on the 6th of July at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. While these details have been reported, the name of his opponent is yet to be revealed. It remains to be seen who Shakur Stevenson will fight next, given how he was criticized for his controversial on-points victory over Edwin De Los Santos in December last year.

While several opponents could be pitted against the New Jersey native, some names have remained central. In The Ring rankings, Shakur Stevenson is the no. 4 fighter in the lightweight division, closely behind the likes of Vasyl Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis, and Issac Cruz. However, it is safe to assume that the WBC whose title he currently holds would want to make these fights happen at a later stage.

- Mexican ‘Camaron’ William Zepeda Segura (29-0),
- Frank Martin aka ‘The Ghost’ (18-0),
- WBO Global light titlist, Raymond Muratalla (19-0),
- and ‘The Businessman’ Keyshawn Davis (10-0).
All of these fighters find themselves in the top 10 lightweight list, but none of them have any fights declared as of yet. However, in addition to these fighters, there is one who the Southpaw remains inclined on facing, Subriel Matias.
In an interview in late February, he commented on the possibility of fighting the Puerto Rican super lightweight. ‘Sugar’ noted, “I think that’s a hell of a fight right there. He another one that look like you got to kill him or he’s not going to stop coming… I’ve got nothing but respect and love for him. Hopefully that dude will get them big fights at 140…if it makes sense, I’m down with it,” he added.
