Ahead of Jaime Munguia vs. John Ryder, David Benavidez‘s father informed the media that ‘Red Flag’ would likely face Ryder if he beat Munguia. In addition, Benavidez Sr. revealed that David was planning to move up and face the Light-Heavyweight boxers like Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev. However, since Ryder lost and Munguia had already “backed out” in the past, boxing fans wondered about David’s next opponent.

Meanwhile, Canelo Alvarez lately announced he was going to fight an American boxer on Cinco de Mayo weekend. At this, several people speculated a potential fight between Canelo and Jermall Charlo. However, the PBC wanted to stage Canelo vs. Jaime Munguia. But now, it seems the Mexican boxer may end up fighting Benavidez this May.

Canelo Alvarez to make $20 Million more should he fight David Benavidez instead of Jaime Munguia

Following his victory over John Ryder in January, Jaime Munguia declared he wanted to face “the best of the best” at Super Middleweight. Therefore, one being asked if he wanted to fight Canelo, Munguia said it would be “an honor to be in the same ring as him“. In this connection, only yesterday, it was reported that Canelo Alvarez would be paid $35 Million by the PBC if he were to fight Jaime Munguia on May 4th. However, today, now that the PBC realizes that Alvarez vs. David Benavidez will sell better than Alvarez vs. Munguia, they are willing to offer Canelo a much better compensation to face ‘Red Flag’.

Taking to X, talkSPORT correspondent Michael Benson reported that the PBC offered Canelo Alvarez a guaranteed purse of $55 Million to square off against David Benavidez next in the ring. However, if Alvarez turns down the offer, David Benavidez will move up to the Light-Heavyweight division as his father had earlier told the media. According to Benson, if Benavidez does not get the bout against Canelo, he will face the 36-year-old Oleksandr Gvozdyk, 20-1-0 at 175 lbs.
