He is one of the world’s richest athletes and has amassed a fortune from his illustrious career. Talking about his wealth, Alvarez recently acknowledged whether he is a billionaire.

Recently, Canelo Alvarez spoke with the media as part of the VMC drink’s product launch. The brand name VMC is an acronym for the saying ‘Viva Mexico Cabrones’, which is customary in Mexico. He was asked about his wealth, in addition to the other inquiries that were being directed at him.

While answering the question, Saul Alvarez stated, “I’m not a billionaire yet. This is the road. You don’t know how big this is, but these are roads I gotta take with strong steps forward and not just lightly. Firm steps with good, capable people. I’m happy and appreciative. Things have gone well for me in life. I’ve made a lot of business and I’m good, but for me, there’s no limits.”

Alvarez is among the biggest attractions in boxing and takes home the biggest paychecks during his fights. If we look at the year 2021, he earned around $85 million from his fights with Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant. He is a marketing magnet, and several other deals and businesses add to his net worth, which is around $180 million.

Saul Alvarez suffered the first defeat of his career in 2013 when he fell short in front of boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. However, the Mexican was just 23-year-old at the time, and Mayweather was 36. The former has made peace with that loss, as he feels he would have stood victorious if he was in his prime, and it all comes down to experience.
