Ryan Garcia drew a countless amount of eyeballs when he announced a switch in trainers. Garcia was a prime fighter in Eddy Reynoso’s gym and he was expected to trace a decorated run like his idol, Canelo Alvarez. However, the young gun abruptly left the boxing fraternity in shock as he announced looping in Joe Goossen as his new trainer.

Fight fans had mixed reactions to ‘King Ry’s move. However, his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, seems to back Garcia’s strides towards working under a new trainer.

Recently, he was in a chat with Fight Hub TV. Here, De La Hoya shed light on why this is a positive move by the young gun.

“Yeah, no look, I mean, you’re talking to a guy who had about seven trainers his whole career, so a change of trainer is always a fresh of breath air.”

“Ryan Garcia did an excellent. You know he chose the right trainer, he chose the right guy. Joe Goossen will bring out the best in him. Joe Goossen is a tough trainer. He doesn’t take you know crap from anybody. He just wants to see his fighters do the very best.” he said.

Ryan Garcia hasn’t fought since January 2021. That said, he’s eager to make a roaring comeback and get his hands on the lightweight gold.

Many expected him to continue his stint with Eddy Reynoso only. But, ‘King Ry’ seems to start everything in a fresh manner. That said, he’s all set to go that extra mile with a new trainer.

When is Ryan Garcia fighting next?

The young boxing icon will take up the ring space on April 9. He will contend with Emmanuel Tagoe in this fight.

For a long time now, Garcia remained desperate to fight again and earn his chance towards a title shot.
