The backlash against Tyson Fury continues. On the 28th of October, the WBC heavyweight champion entered the ring against debutant boxer, Francis Ngannou. In a highly controversial fashion, Tyson registered a split-decision victory over his Cameroonian opponent.

In his fight against Ngannou, he failed to dominate as most fight fans predicted. His failure to do so was compounded by the fact that Ngannou even managed to knockdown Fury in the third round.  In the wake of the victory, the boxing community has been very critical of him.

The jam-packed Boulevard Hall of Riyadh witnessed a moment in history. Every lethal punch that ‘The Gypsy King’ directed towards ‘The Predator’ went in vain. However, in response came a left hook that caught Fury off-guard and sent him to the canvas. Even in the later rounds, Fury wasn’t able to inflict much damage on Ngannou. But that was not how most expected it to go, for, a world champion was going against someone who’s never boxed before.

Proving the naysayers wrong was Ngannou’s doggedness. Despite losing the fight, he declared to the world that he wanted to conquer boxing.  TNT Sports recently posted the match highlights on their X profile, and the fans tore into Fury’s sub-par performance.

Former UFC headliner, Ngannou has garnered significant attention following the 28th October fight. Despite a close fight that many believed Ngannou won, the judges ruled in Fury’s favor. In the backdrop of such developments, Ngannou’s next potential opponents include Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. However, he had previously signed a deal with the Professional Fighters League for an MMA bout scheduled for next year.

Ngannou has now expressed his willingness to step into the boxing ring for a rematch with Tyson Fury, ideally in February or March. Fury, on the other hand, remains focused on a bout with Oleksandr Usyk, potentially to take place sometime early next year. The Usyk fight aligns with his aim to become the undisputed heavyweight champion.
