Smith contested Paul’s list and, seeing no mention of Teofimo Lopez was disappointed. Despite his loss to Kamboses, Smith felt Lopez deserved to be on the list. He said, “What’s wrong with Lopez other than his loss to Kamboses? What’s wrong with him? He’s [Teofimo Lopez] a knockout artist. What’s wrong with him?”
In his response to Smith, Paul said, “He barely beat Lomachenko.”
In his assessment, Paul overlooked Lomachenko’s performances and more achieved in the ring. His two Olympic gold medals, titles in multiple weight classes since he turned pro, and 396 amateur wins.
