After what happened last year, nobody was expecting legendary heavyweight champion Mike Tyson to return to boxing. But here we are! In November last year, 58-year-old ‘Iron’ Mike returned to the ring after 19 years of retirement to fight YouTube star Jake Paul in a record-breaking yet controversial boxing match in Las Vegas. What happened next?
What most people had expected to happen—Tyson was far from his former self, as he gassed out after the first round, and ‘The Problem Child’ took control. Ultimately, ‘El Gallo’ took the cake and produced a unanimous decision win. Now, after two failed attempts at fighting Canelo Alvarez and Gervonta Davis, Paul will lock horns with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. But it appears Tyson is coming back before Paul.

Is Mike Tyson really fighting someone?
Right after losing to Paul last year, Tyson seemed pumped to put on the gloves again. After all, he was paid a whopping $20 million for the Paul fight, per reports. He had even challenged Paul’s older brother, Logan Paul, but that didn’t go anywhere. However, as time passed, it became clear that Tyson wouldn’t be fighting again.
But after His Excellency Turki Alalshikh posted a tweet recently, promoting the new Fatal Fury game alongside the upcoming Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero event in Times Square, New York, Tyson quickly responded with an update about the event, suggesting he will be part of the event as he returns to boxing.

However, the reality is—he won’t be joining Garcia, Romero, and the list of fighters as a boxer. Rather, he has another role to play. Responding to Alalshikh, Mike Tyson wrote, “Can’t wait! I’ll be there in Times Square as guest analyst.” Seeing this, fans quickly clamored to the post to share their excitement.

Tyson’s return to New York causes a frenzy
It’s no secret that Mike Tyson has his roots deep in New York City, so his return quickly sparked a conversation among fans. One user anticipated Tyson’s return to the city would be nothing short of a spectacle. The user wrote, “Mike, you’re going to be so 🔥🔥🔥.” Interestingly, Tyson last fought in New York all the way back on May 20, 1986, when he defeated Mitch Green by unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, another user found the Tyson and New York combo an absolute no-brainer deal. The user responded with, “Iron Mike in Times Square? That’s a knockout combo!” Notably, Tyson grew up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York, so his return has sparked so much conversation.

Another user gave Mike Tyson the ultimate honor. The user wrote, “KING OF NEW YORK! Ain’t nothing compared to @MikeTyson.” Tyson’s childhood in New York was a turbulent one. Though it was rough, it was the same place that molded him into the ferocious boxer he became.
That said, it appears that while Mike Tyson is returning to boxing before Jake Paul, it’s not in a boxer’s capacity. Does his presence in the Garcia vs. Romero event make it even more exciting?
