Claressa Shields currently finds herself navigating tough waters. A former sparring partner, Arturs Ahmetovs, uploaded a 5-year-old video of him knocking her down that has since upended her status as ‘GWOAT’. While she has reiterated many times that the guy cheated her by wearing a glove with no pads, trolls have continued to bite at her seams. Recently, the Michigan native put out an emphatic and strongly worded response via a tweet that has resonated with many, including the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe.
In a befitting response to those questioning her boxing prowess; she hit out, stating, “To whom it may concern, No matter what I go through public or private, I’m still gone think I’m all that, you can bring up any flaw, any past mistake & any gossip, I’M STILL gone think I’m all that.” While her strong words might not have gone well with her long list of critics, with one it has resonated, far and loud.

Leonard Ellerbe Stands with Claressa Shields
Ellerbe, lending his support to the GWOAT, asked the undefeated fighter to keep going, and to pay no heed to those who are constantly critical of her. “Fk all them, it’s the same clowns that are miserable and feel a certain way abt blk people and their accomplishments, it’s the same group of lames. Don’t allow other people’s perception change who you are, keep living your your life and smiling and being the best version of you!!” stated Ellerbe, retweeting her post.

Ellerbe has been in the business since the formative days of Floyd Mayweather. So, he knows how the industry works, and what boxers have to deal with in this realm. Especially African-American fighters. While Ellerbe’s support might have boosted her confidence, Shields remains embroiled in a clash with many. She has even threatened legal action against anyone who is caught further circulating the knockdown video.

Shields Threatens Legal Action Amid the Arturs Ahmetovs Fiasco
Despite multiple clarifications given regarding the video posted by Arturs Ahmetovs, Shields continues to receive flak. Things might have just been too much for her as she blasted those claiming she was knocked out by a man. Through her Instagram stories, she threatened legal action, specifically a defamation of character suit against anyone who further circulates the video. She wrote, “Anybody or network post that sparring video from 5 years ago getting blocked and a defamation of character letter because I did not get KO’d I got knocked down by a b**** boy with no padding in his gloves.”
Shields is certainly well capable of defending herself in the ring and outside. Whenever she’s been slandered, she’s come back stronger in response, shutting her trolls and critics with words and actions of substance. The Ahmetovs fiasco seems to be another one of those things that might not go away so quickly, no matter how much she wants it to.
