The boxing world is buzzing with excitement ready for the upcoming exhibition fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and John Gotti III. While the former five-division champion is no stranger to exhibition bouts, this match-up has generated a lot of attention due to Gotti’s bold remarks and the involvement of a prominent former crime family.

Gotti III is the grandson of the late notorious crime boss John Gotti who has made his mark in MMA over the past few years. Moreover, he made it clear that he has every intention of taking the fight to Mayweather. In fact, he’s promised to punish Mayweather come fight night. However, Gotti isn’t the only one making bold remarks in the lead-up to the fight.

Meanwhile, undisputed light middleweight world champion Jermell Charlo thinks that he could have been a great matchup for ‘Money’ Mayweather. In a recent appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast Charlo claimed he could take on the ‘sneaky’ shots Mayweather was known for and that it wouldn’t affect him much.

“I could take any one of those sneaky shots. I don’t care what type of sneaky shot he threw at me it wouldn’t affect me at all,” he said. Despite the undisputed champions’ confident remarks, the fans were not convinced that he could fare up against Mayweather in his prime.

Fans call out Jermell Charlo for his bold remarks on Floyd Mayweather Jr.

A user called Charlo “delusional” and claimed that he would be outboxed by Mayweather. “Guy is delusional. Floyd would work him,” he wrote. Another user stated that Mayweather in his prime would have ‘killed’ Charlo. “Man Floyd in his prime would kill Charlo,” he wrote. Meanwhile, one fan stated that Floyd would have another win in his perfect record. “Floyd would’ve been 51-0,” he wrote.

Moreover, according to a user named LaMar Stingley, this was not a great challenge for Chalro as Mayweather is retired. “Bro Floyd is retired and arguably the goat of his weight class. 45+ years old. This is a challenge that holds ZERO merit,” he wrote.

Lastly, a user called out the undisputed champion claiming that everyone now wants to fight Mayweather when he’s retired and only does exhibitions. “Everyone wants to fight a man that’s retired and doing exhibitions,” he wrote.

The fans certainly did not resonate with Charlo on how a fight with Mayweather would play out. However, he is an undisputed champion and one of the best boxers in the world. While comparing fighters from different eras is something that has been going on since the inception of the sport, it is impossible to know who could win. The only thing fans and fighters can do is speculate based on the things the fighters have done during their careers.
