After being away for more than a year, Errol Spence Jr. will put his WBC and IBF welterweight titles at stake against WBA champion Yordenis Ugas in a massive unification matchup in mid-2022. As several people were complaining about the 147 lbs division lacking top-tier matchups, Spence vs Ugas could calm them down.
Although Spence Jr. has a better pro-resume than Ugas, ’54 Milagros’ can pull off an encore of his Manny Pacquiao fight and stun ‘The Truth’.
Mikey Garcia, who has fought Errol Spence Jr. in 2019, believes his former nemesis can come across a tough challenge while facing Ugas. In an exclusive chat with Fight Hype, Garcia said, “It could be dangerous for him.”

“If he gets hit, it could cause serious injuries. So that’s a tough fight for a return fight after surgery like that for [Errol] Spence. Big props to him for taking fights like that. But that’s a dangerous fight.”

Yordenis Ugas has lost four times so far in his career and isn’t the biggest opponent in Spence Jr’s glittery resume. However, as he is the belt holder, he will be on the radar of the division’s other champions. As ’54 Milagros’ is high on confidence, he will look to turn more heads with a win over ‘The Truth’. That being said, as Errol Spence Jr. is younger and in his prime, he may be a tougher opponent than Pacquiao.

Errol Spence Jr. and Yordenis Ugas can produce fireworks at 147 lbs
Spence Jr. is at a critical stage of his career and can opt to jump into a different weight class after a few more tests in the welterweight division. While most people wanted to see him face Terence Crawford in a high-voltage collision, that fight is miles away from fruition. Thus, Ugas is what seems to be the best option for ‘The Truth’ at welterweight right now.

Errol Spence Jr. suffered retinal injury months back and walked out of the scheduled fight against Pacquiao. While Yordenis Ugas made full use of it and retired Pac-Man, it’s time to collide against ‘The Truth’ and produce fireworks.
