The fight could be over a month away, but Jeff Mayweather seems clear on his pick for the winner. On March 30, Amazon Prime will bring home the first of the PBC’s pay-per-view events. Each of the four fights in the package sounds exciting. However, given the volatility of both boxers, none appears more intriguing than Rolando Romero versus Isaac Cruz.

It would be Romero’s first title defense. He defeated Ismael Barroso on May 13 last year to become the WBA light welterweight champion. Cruz, who hogged the limelight for taking Gervonta Davis the whole distance during their 2021 title bout, climbs up a division to stake a claim at ‘Rollie’s belt. Both boxers are well-known heavy-hitters, though the scale tilts heavily in favor of Romero in the knockout sphere. Given the record and expertise, many expect a neck-and-neck brawl at the T-Mobile Arena. However, when asked, Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s uncle believes certain advantages could play a critical role in the match.

Speaking with FightHype‘s Ron Goodall, the 59-year-old former IBO super featherweight champion said that the Romero-Cruz bout would be a good one. In his view, both boxers relish going full-on against their opponents. Unlike many, they are not burdened by the niceties of following the finer aspects of technical boxing. Hence, it would be a thrilling fight, Mayweather said.

But then came the revelation that he would be favoring Rolando Romero to win the day. According to the former world champion and trainer, the American boxer fought his last battle in the same weight class. More so, by-and-large, he has stayed around the current weight class for most of the time. In Jeff Mayweather’s opinion, rather, Romero had often had to go down in weight during some of the fights. However, now he is at the optimum weight. Hence, he should be able to fight effortlessly.

I lean slightly toward, uh, Rollie Romero. I think that you know Rollie is has at least fought at that weight, and plus, he’s been at that weight you know for a long time; he’s actually you know had to lose weight to get to fight at the weight classes that he’s been at, but now he’s probably more comfortable at the weight, so I figure that, um, I just think that that Rollie probably be a little little bit more stronger than ‘Pitbull’,” said Mayweather Jr.’s uncle.

Goodall checked for the kind of power Rolando Romero could muster in the ring. Jeff Mayweather revealed that he knows ‘Rollie’ from the time he was a kid; he couldn’t confirm anything about his strength since he hadn’t spent that much time with him in the ring. However, once again, he made it clear that since Romero is fighting in a weight category where he feels the most comfortable, he would prefer giving him an upper hand over the Mexican Isaac Cruz on March 30.
