Teofimo Lopez seems to have a lot to say about the big boxing names. First Terence Crawford, and now Eddie Hearn. While it was Hearn who started by taking shots at the fighter, the latter then called the ace promoter “a fluke and a liar” in a recent public appearance. Hearn, one not to take heat from anyone, has come out in all force against Lopez.

Hearn had earlier claimed that Lopez and his counterpart, Shakur Stevenson, could not even sell 3000-4000 tickets for their fights. Citing the Las Vegas fighter’s last encounter against Josh Taylor, the promoter argued that the fight did not sell out at Madison Square Garden Theater, insinuating that the fighter can’t sell fights. In response, a fuming Lopez cited the supposed history he created with the Taylor fight. Hearn has now called out his claims, labeling the fighter’s claims as “complete rubbish.”

In a conversation with Boxing Social, Hearn reacted to Teofimo Lopez’s statement, remarking, “I think he’s fu****g completely deluded and I think he’s on another planet. That is what I think. But sometimes, you have to be, to do what he does. Like to go in there and beat Lomachenko, to beat Josh Taylor, you probably gotta be a little whack.”

In an earlier conversation, in response to Hearn’s attack on his ability to sell a fight, ‘ The Takeover’ had remarked, “Eddie Hearn is a fluke and a liar and lying to you guys… If I was under Matchroom, it would be a whole different story. But we’re… Top Rank. So, the thing that he said about me saying I can’t sell out arenas and stuff, you know, not only did we sell out.” He claimed that his Taylor fight that he won via UD went sold out.

The British promoter while retorting to his claims, said, “I just listen to his interviews and think he talks absolute shit. We crept over the line for a sellout at the theatre. He didn’t sell out against Josh Taylor. He talks about the biggest gate in the history of the theatre, complete rubbish. And by the way, it holds like 3900, so you’re capping about selling 3800 tickets and you’re this megastar that should be getting 20 million.”

However, Hearn, taking the high road, said that he does not have any issues with the fighter. In fact, he did not understand where Lopez’s disdain for him stemmed from. Nevertheless, the Matchroom Boss did suggest a possible source of Lopez’s animosity against him. In the same interview, he revealed what might be the possible reason for it.

Why is the Takeover so hostile toward the promoter?

“Teofimo Lopez is on another planet. Like, firstly, I don’t even know why. All this beef with me is because he lost to George Komobosos, and he feels that it was my fault, that he didn’t get the decision,” the promoter said to Boxing Social. In 2017, the 26-year-old fighter registered his career’s only loss against George Kambosos Jr. through a split decision.

Blaming Hearn and DAZN for the loss, Lopez’s father told SecondsOut, “We should’ve never fought with DAZN, I should’ve stood with Top Rank ‘cause those are the people that really love us.” The Matchroom Boxing head had also revealed that senior Lopez had reached out to him to confront him on his son’s loss, attributing the blame on the promoter.
