On May 7th Canelo Alvarez fought Dmitry Bivol chasing the latter’s WBA Super World Light Heavyweight title. In an underwhelming performance, Alvarez lost the bout. Bivol not only overpowered Saul but out-thought him in the ring. The loss to Bivol was Alvarez’s second in pro boxing.

Alvarez was physically smaller when it came to Dmitry. However, was moving up the weight class the root of all problems Alvarez faced in that fight? Oscar De La Hoya has something to say about this. De La Hoya acknowledged that Alvarez was smaller and had certain disadvantages going up against Dmitry. However, ‘Golden Boy’ also believed that Saul lacked the hunger and the will to win.

According to De La Hoya‘s statements, ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez vs. Dmitry Bivol would be a different fight. Since Ramirez is not only “stronger” but also “hungrier” than Canelo Alvarez is inside the ring, ‘Golden Boy’ thinks the former wouldn’t suffer the same fate as Canelo did.

De La Hoya said, “I think that Zurdo Ramirez is a bigger fighter, a stronger fighter, he’s a southpaw, he’s hungrier. You got to take into consideration that Canelo was already on top.”
“Canelo’s mindset was already a winner, Canelo’s mindset was already enjoying the fruits of his labor, he was already a super star. Guess what? Ramirez is on his way up, Ramirez is hungry,” he added saying.

The will to taste glory: the difference between ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and Canelo Alvarez in boxing
According to De La Hoya, the fact that creates a difference between Ramirez and Alvarez is that the former hasn’t yet tasted glory in pro boxing. Alvarez came to fight Bivol having fought the likes of Mayweather, Caleb Plant, and Golovkin.

Although ‘Zurdo’ is 44-0, he is yet to go up against enormous names in professional boxing. “Ramirez is a fighter who wants to taste the glory. That’s going to be the difference right there,” De La Hoya concluded by saying.
