The Saturday night show was stolen away by Artur Beterbiev’s magnificent performances against Anthony Yarde at Wembley. It was among the most anticipated fights of 2023, and with the mischievous knockout in the eighth round, Beterbiev was able to win every fan’s heart.
However, the result might be different if Yarde’s coach, Tunde Ajayi, did not go up to the ring and end the fight. Meanwhile, Talk Sports boxing editor Michael Benson has shared what Artur Beterbiev had to say about Yarde’s coach’s decision on Twitter. As per Beterbiev, his coach did the right thing to stop the fight, otherwise both could have suffered more serious injuries.

Artur Beterbiev praises Anthony Yarde’s coach
Michael Benson said on Twitter, “Artur Beterbiev on Anthony Yarde’s corner stopping the fight: “It was a good decision. He needed his team. He’s a fighter. The coach has to feel his fighter – when he [needs to] stop. He knows better. I don’t want to kill someone, I just want to win.”

Beterbiev has nothing but love for the coach. In combat sports like boxing, it is very common to have some serious injuries in the ring, and sometimes it could become life-threatening. And coaches are the one who know the boxer more than the boxer himself. Indeed, the coach did the right thing.

What Anthony Yarde has to say about this?
Anthony Yarde also spoke on the corner thing. Post-fight, he said in an interview, “I watched clips where he dips and throws the over-hand right, but he threw it and caught me. I heard the count start. I took my time. I beat the count, but my trainer and my team love me and said they were seeing something they didn’t like.”
He concluded, “All I was thinking was ‘get up, go at him again, hit him with anything’. But it was called off and I am able to speak and laugh about it now, so we live to fight another day.”
Yarde has no bad feelings after the loss. They both got stitches after the match and also posted a video when Beterbiev was in the medical room. Recently, in a video before the fight, on an interview, Yarde expressed how COVID took away his 5 family members including his father. So health comes before any match.
