WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury first tasted gold after beating Wladimir Klitschko seven years ago. The British star became a world champion after defeating the Ukrainian boxer in 2015 for the IBF, IBO, WBA (Super), and WBO heavyweight titles.

However, ‘The Gypsy King’s life since then has not been what he had initially imagined. In an interview with Ariel Helwani Fury revealed that after beating the former champ his life took a turn for the worse due to the added pressure and expectations that come with being a champion.

It’s been a pretty s**** seven years since. It was a fantastic 27 years leading to it but a s***** seven years since. It’s almost been a curse beating Wladimir Klitschko. You say I’ve got everything I ever wanted, I never really wanted all the fame and all the s**** that comes with being a champion, that’s not what it was about” said Fury remembering the bout.

Moreover, he then added that he could not live a normal life since he became the champion and that he was ‘ tortured’ by people with him knowing the responsibilities of a champion.

I got everything I wanted by beating Klitschko, just getting that victory over him. You don’t own your own life anymore, you can’t go anywhere, you can’t live a normal life. So, it’s not what I wanted and it’s not a great life. It sucks d***. It’s not good because you don’t have your own life anymore. I’m stuck where I have to be tortured by people wherever I go. So, yeah, it’s not all what I wanted. I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into, to be fair.” he added

Although Fury became the face of heavyweight boxing after this victory, he still was not able to cope with the challenges outside of the ring. However, he has matured a lot since then and is still currently the WBC champion. He will now look to defend his title against long-time rival Derek Chisora on December 3 in the final chapter of their trilogy.
