WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has had a rocky 2022. From beating Dillian Whyte and announcing his retirement to trying to come back and face Anthony Joshua with the fight never materializing. Moreover, he is set to face his longstanding rival Derek Chisora for the third time to make up the final chapter in their trilogy. Despite this. Fury does not seem to be too vested in the sport as he did back in the day. In an interview with BTSport along with Del Boy, Fury revealed that he did not have any passion for boxing. “You know, I really don’t have any passion for boxing like I don’t have any goals. I don’t have any like want,” he said.

He added that at first he wanted to become the heavyweight champion, but now that he has achieved that boxing was nothing more than a job. ” I first started in boxing I wanted to be a champion, I wanted to buy my own house, I wanted to make some money. I wanted to come from nothing to something. And the only way that I could do with no education from school was through sports and my sport was boxing.” Said Fury.

As an athlete grows, his love for the sport fades. However, Fury is still active and while he does not love the sport like he used to, he is still one of the top heavyweights and a pleasure to watch in the ring.

Matchroom CEO and Fury’s rival promoter Eddie Hearn thinks Fury vs. Chisora will not do well on PPV. In an interview with IDboxin, he predicted that the fight would sell around 200,000 to 300,000 PPVs, which is lower than what Fury’s promotion will expect.

I think it does between 200,000 and 300,000 buys and they probably need between 400,000 and 500,000. Listen, Tyson Fury ’s a huge star and he’s not going to be boxing for small money. I know what Derek Chisora’s making, I think most people do and if the tickets haven’t quite sold as well as anticipated, you’re under a lot of pressure.” Said Hearn.

The bout is certainly not what boxing fans were expecting after Fury announced his return. However, he has claimed that he would like to challenge Oleksandr Usyk in 2023 if he wins against Chisora. Usyk has also expressed interest in facing Fury, which could lead to the biggest fight in heavyweight boxing next year.
