“I Want to Make a Statement”: Devin Haney Reveals The Potential Outcome of His Fight Against Vasyl Lomachenko

Ahead of his fight with Vasyl Lomachenko on the 20th of May, the current undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney stated that he wants to achieve more than just a victory against the Ukrainian boxer. Although Haney admitted “a win is a win,” he expressed that he wants to make a statement on the 20th of May inside the boxing ring. According to Devin Haney, this fight is personal to him since Lomachenko made him wait for 4 years.

Haney, who is both unbeaten and undisputed, feels he is levels above Lomachenko in pro boxing. As a result, now that he is finally facing the former unified lightweight champion, he declared, “I’ll let you go in there and impose my will on him“. In a recent interview with Stephen A. Smith, speaking about the spectacular way he would like to win, Haney revealed the potential outcome of his fight against Lomachenko.

On being asked whether he aimed for a knockout against Lomachenko, Haney stated a win meant everything to him. However, at the same time, he declared he would make a statement. Although he branded Lomachenko as a “future Hall of Famer,” Haney claimed he was “levels above this guy“. “Of course, a win means everything. A win is a win. At the end of the day, I wanna go in there and I wanna make a statement. I wanna show that I’m levels above this guy,” said Devin Haney who feels Lomachenko would fight dirty against him.

In addition, Haney spoke about being upset since Lomachenko made him wait for four years for this fight. Hence, disclosing his mentality to Stephen A. Smith, Haney said, “I’d like to bring some more to the table than just victory“. While claiming that the fight was personal to him, Haney even declared that he would demonstrate what none has done yet to Lomachenko in boxing.  “I wanna show that I’m upset that he made me wait 4 years. This is not just a fight, this is personal to me. I want to do something that nobody’s done before,” confidently Haney added. “And whether it’s a knockout or whether it’s just a beating, I’ll let you go in there and impose my will on him,” he concluded.
