This year has been full of ups and downs for Oscar De La Hoya. After finally making the fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis materialize, his star boxer ended up losing the bout. Though he had blamed a mole for leaking out the news of his injury, from the fight it was clear that Davis was a level above the boxer. However, what was more perplexing was that Garcia was left alone post-fight to face his first defeat.
It confused a lot of fans that, during the post-fight conference, Garcia’s trainer and promoter were nowhere to be seen. This led to the fallout between the young boxer and him as he felt betrayed. As many had suspected, Garcia tried to get out of the contract with Golden Boy Promotions. However, he was sued. De La Hoya had previously stated that he left the event because of a death threat. Recently, he elaborated upon what really happened that caused all the misunderstandings.

Oscar De La Hoya recalls being petrified
Post-fight neither De La Hoya nor Bernard Hopkins were there for Garcia. Though president of the company, Eric Gomez was present. This action led to a bitter back-and-forth between the boxer and the promoter on Twitter, leading fans to believe they had indeed fallen apart. In a recent interview with Breakfast Club, De La Hoya elaborated on the death threats. He revealed, “I think the arena was overflowed by like 3,000 people … And so after the fight, I’m walking down with my security guards. We’re just like sardines trying to get out, and I hear this voice. ‘Watch your back. It’s gonna happen tonight.’”

He stated that he had been with Garcia “the whole week of Vegas, this and that”. De La Hoya claimed that the event was “crazy” and “nuts”. De La Hoya stated that he sent Hopkins to Ryan’s locker room and also made it clear that all his executives were there as well. He lamented it and was also labeled as the “bad guy”. De La Hoya gave some insight into his thoughts at the time, stating, “I was just trying to get out of there, because when you get something like that in your ear, I had no clue who it was, I just told my security guard let’s get out of here.”
Ryan Garcia is looking for other fights
Ryan Garcia hasn’t held back as he expressed his dissatisfaction with his squad when they left him all alone after his loss. Garcia has already changed his trainer to Derrick James, it remains to be seen if he will remain in Golden Boy or not. Though De La Hoya remains willing to promote the star as he recently offered two exciting fights to Garcia.

As for the boxer himself, it seems that he is interested in fighting Regis Prograis next. In a now deleted tweet, he called the champion out for a potential bout. Garcia wrote, “Regis if you want to fight. Please let Eddie know 🥊🥊 I want all that 💨I’m confident I can do damage at 140. So if you want to make something happen, please contact my team. I’m dead serious.” He appears to not be interested in a rematch against Tank as of now and is looking for other fights. His deleting the tweet definitely raises some questions about his actual intent.
