Jesse Rodriguez suffered a broken jaw while becoming a two-division world champion on the 4th of April. Rodriguez believes he had his mouth open when he got caught with that one particular hit. Although not personally satisfied with his 19th professional performance in the ring, Rodriguez declared he was far from quitting. However, Rodriguez requires surgery following the mentioned jaw injury which he sustained in round 6 of his fight against Christian Gonzales.

The 23-year-old southpaw fighter is now eyeing a match with Sunny Edwards in boxing. In Rodriguez’s own words, the fight against Edwards is “the only option” for him. However, before the duo locks horns inside the ring, Rodriguez must go through surgery.

Following the fresh victory over Christian Gonzalez Hernandez, Rodriguez revealed how much the broken jaw hurt him. Although he could barely talk through it, he declared himself different from all those boxers who quit after an injury as bad as a broken jaw. In his opinion, he went through hell to be crowned with this new title in boxing. Speaking after the fight, the boxer announced he needed surgery early this week. As reported by BoxingScene, Rodriguez later said, “A lot of people would have quit after fracturing their jaw but I’ve never been one of those. Requiring surgery early this week. It’s all good, though; I’m a 2x world champion.”

Went through hell for this belt,” he added. Following his latest victory, the American fighter now displays a record of 0 losses and 18 wins. In his opinion, the fight against Hernandez was not his best performance seen in boxing. He believes he probably broke his jaw in the 6th round of the fight. Since Hernandez kept moving, the 23-year-old feels he had a tough time figuring his opponent out in the ring. However, he looks forward to facing Edwards who signed with Matchroom Sport. Hopefully, he will soon heal.
