Canelo Alvarez, one of the world’s most famous boxers, made a shocking admission in a new video on YouTube that has gone viral on the internet. Canelo’s confession stands apart in a sport where athletes are recognized for their physical strength and aggressive demeanor.
Boxing has always been linked with a certain level of swagger and aggression, from Muhammad Ali’s famous trash talk to Mike Tyson’s fearsome aura. What transpires, though, when a boxer deviates from that pattern and exhibits a level of fragility that is uncommon in the game? That is exactly what Canelo Alvarez has done, and as a result of his confession, there is much discussion and speculative activity in the boxing community.
Canelo Alvarez reveals the scariest fight of his career
Canelo Alvarez, the defending super middleweight champion, recently discussed one of the most difficult fights in his career. Canelo Alvarez reminisced in the video about his battle against James Kirkland on May 9, 2015. He called the fight “crazy” and expressed concern about Kirkland’s influence.
Canelo said, “This fight was crazy because he, every time he punched me in my arm I feel it really hard and I thought if this guy hit me in the face, I’m gonna go down for sure. And I tried to finish soon, that’s what I did.” Canelo, despite his concerns, was able to utilize a potent right-handed punch in the third round to vanquish Kirkland.
For now, Alvarez is looking forward to a potential rematch with Dmitry Bivol.
